Re: Found info for ordering manuals - which is best?

For general maintenance and tune-up (lower unit oil change, impeller, fuel pump, carbs), generic (Seloc) is OK. But if you plan to dig into it, like rebuilding the powerhead, the OEM (Factory service manual) is a must have.

If this is your first boat and outboard, i'd go with a generic and, if you ever need it, check on ebay for the FSM, cause Merc seems to think they were gold.

Anyway, the first thing you'll need, even for ordering a manual, will be the serial number, wich is either 7 digits or a letter followed by 6 digits (located on a sticker on the starboard side of the transom bracket and/or stamped on a 1" silvery round "plug" located beside the spark plug hole on the block).

Thanks - I'll get a generic on order shortly.

I saw they also sold a separate parts list. Is that really needed ?

Not at all.

Everything you need (parts listing, diagrams) can be found on the web.
