four wings Omc cobra 4.3
Hello, i have a Four wing omc cobra 4.3. I have some issues with my boat. We wen to the lake and everything was ok. The problem started when we were on our way back. The boat would not turn on. Everything is new the sensor switch, new filter, new batteries, new case switch, new coil, i did the tune up, new key switch, new starter, and i changed the spark plugs. I changed everything that I thought could be the problem. If anyone can tell me what’s wrong or any advice i would be thankful.

When you say it won't turn on, can you be more specific? Is it just a click, or is it turning over and not starting, or turning over and almost starting but not quite, or...?

On the dash board the battery meter shows less volts than the battery and i try to start the boat and its sounds like it wants to start but it doesn’t.

If you have a way to test voltage directly at battery, you might be able to tell if your battery somehow got run down between your outbound trip and return, like maybe something was left turned on? Battery at rest should be like 12.5 or higher. If it's lower than that you way just have a weak battery.

The batteries are new and fully charged

You should have a multimeter in your toolbox, it will help you diagnose this and other problems. First test your battery with a multimeter and verify you've got 12.5v or more. Next do a voltage drop test on the battery (read volts while cranking) should still be above 9. Next test voltage at starter selenoid, should be same as battery. Next test voltage at ignition coil positive post. Should be around 9v with engine cranking or running.

If these tests are all good then we can start troubleshooting the ignition system. My gut says your battery is drained. Or you've got a loose connection on your new ignition coil. Or possibly the ignition coil was wired incorrectly and got fried

Thanks i going to check those things

First clean battery connections. You can also hook up a battery charger to charge the batt. & see if it starts. If it does & battery doesn't hold a charge it may be time for a new alternator.

i clean my batteries connections. i notice when i remove the coil my dash voltmeter show 13 amp but when i connected back show less than 11 amp. i’m not sure if i get the right coil. how i know if i need ballast resistor or not?

I recently had an issue of not starting and poor running (with my OMC 120hp sterndrive), and we discovered the coil was getting way lower than 12v. We ran a jump wire directly from battery positive to coil and it started and ran great. This worked for multiple trips with the temporary jump wire, the only problem being that the switch would not turn off the boat. So I just rewired a new wire that activates with the start switch and runs straight to the distributor wire, and that has completely solved the problem. Might be worth checking if your problem goes away by doing something like this to bypass any voltage drops before the coil.

By "switch would not turn off the boat," I mean we'd connect the jump wire and start the boat, go for a cruise, and then to kill the motor you needed to unclip the jump wire.

You need to get a voltmeter or multimeter so you can test the voltage and resistance at different places in the circuit. Then you can begin to fix this problem. Sounds to me like you replaced the coil with an internal resistance coil but you can probably make it work by removing the resistance wire and running a hot wire to the coil. Can you explain what wires are connected to the coil and where they go?

I connected the new coil the same way I removed it, two purple wires on a positive post and a black wire and a black/grey wire on a negative post,
one purple wire and a black wire comes from the distributor, and the other wires (purple and black/grey) wire comes from a harness
