Trim gauge topped out. Moving sender arm by hand and gauge works fine. It seems that it is phsically impossible for out drive to make contact with sender arm. When stern drive is fully up the sender arm is about 3" away from the stern drive. With the drive down almost all the way, the sender arm still does not make contact. Nothing looks broken. Is it possible there is something that attaches to the end of the sender arm? A wheel? Another arm maybe? I attached some pics. There is minimal adjustment for the sender via the hold down screws.

Re: Four Winns 1988 Sundowner Trim problem

I ran into this same problem last year on my 88 sundowner. I tried making adjustment and modifying the sender but had no such luck. For the inexpensive price of the sender unit I just bought a new one. It was also cake to change. That's what I recommend.

THe sender functions as far as the gauge is concerned. It seems the arm of the sender does not reach the out drive to actuate the sender. The arm on my sender is about 3" long. Does the new one have a longer arm? I have attached a picture from Go2Marine that sells the replacement sender. It looks just like the one that is on my boat.
