My parents are looking at a 1990 candia 200. It has a 360hp V8. I can't seem to find much info about the boat for them. Hoping some of you have some experience with this boat and can weight in.

They are looking for a boat for inland lakes mostly with a little fair weather bay boating. Something that handles well with a decent ride. Occasionally pulling a tube with the grand kids on but mostly hanging out with their friends. Will this boat fit the bill? Any info about four winns build quality? Any and all input is helpful?

thanks

Re: four winns candia 200 info help

That age of Four Winns has a few things going against it.

1st - It is an OMC power plant (unless it was repowered). While in the day they were a good alternative to Mercruiser, the OMC Cobra has not been built since 1994-5 and are now less desirable than a Mercruiser or Volvo.

2nd - That age Candia deck boat line was still the "old" style deck boat with more of a tri-hull than a modified V hull. They ride rough, wet and bow low.

Also, I assume it is a 260 hp V8 not 360 hp. I don't think any one had a 360 HP V8 back then.

Re: four winns candia 200 info help

just called my father. he said its a gm 350 crate motor with a mercruiser outdrive. He said he's pretty sure that the guy said it was 360hp, but he would have to check. the p.o. replaced everything 3 years ago. the motor and drive has a little over 300 hours on since replacement. Not sure if that helps

Re: four winns candia 200 info help

So, if it has been repowered with Mercruiser components that is a good thing and does help, IF it was done well. Get pictures to confirm that it is a Mercruiser outdrive. Get pictures of the engine bay to confirm everything is well put together and not a hack job. Wire harnesses need to be neat and organized and hoses, fuel lines etc. really need to be up to par to make it worth it.

In 1990 Four Winns was owned by OMC. So every boat that left the factory had OMC power. It is now somewhat common to repower with Mercruiser components but as with any DIY endeavor the end results are dependent on the skill/care of the person doing it.
