omc still not starting
Ok I took my boat to the shop because after taking out the old depth finder the boat would not start. Its a 1989 four winns with a omc 4.3. The guy at the shop where it is currently says he put the wires back and gauges are working but the boat still wont start. I'm out 200 bucks at this poiint now and he says its probably the starter. Not sure if i should continue with this as its running into money. Any suggestions on what I shoud do next? Could it of messed up the starter crossing wires.

Re: four winns not starting

A "no crank" issue is one of the easiest electrical problems to isolate. If the mechanic cannot tell you with any degree of certainty what the problem is, find a new mechanic. To repair $200 worth of wiring because a locator was removed is also a rip unless you just grabbed a handful of wires and yanked them out. If the starter worked before you removed the locator, I feel you do not have a starter problem. You have a mechanic problem (electrically challenged). But since we don't have his side of the story, we will have to believe you.

And posting the same problem under two different titles does not speed up the response. What it does do is annoy those trying to help.

Re: four winns not starting

I would take the starter out and take it to Autozone or whatever local auto parts store you have and let them test it. OMC is a chevy product so you should be able to get it tested pretty easily.

Good Luck.

I just bought a 1989 Four Winns with an OMC Cobra 4.3 L
