Hello all . I have owned my boat for three seasons now it is a 1999 four winns Horizon 170 with a Johnson 115 OB. I have loved every minute with this phone but I have always had some questions that I’ve never been answered. First question is does anyone know if the boat is form filled if it ever took on water would it sink all the way I have never seen anybody rip the floors up in one of these boats in my second question is I’m pretty sure the stringers and the transom Harwood but I have never found any information on that either I know the boat you don’t like a tank. I guess not having any repair videos or repair forums on this boat is a good thing but it just seems like there’s not much information on them I have the owners manual but that doesn’t say much. Thanks

Coast Guard regs require flotation in a 17' boat and long before 1999.

The purpose of flotation isn't to keep the boat above water. It's to keep the boat awash long enough and to hang onto until rescued.

Have you reached out to Four Winns regarding your inquiry? I've found them very responsive when I've had to deal with them. They should know how they built their boat. Just sayin...

Yes honestly I have thought about it but when I owned my Key Largo and I tried calling about the wood used in the transom which was supposed to be Greenwood I guess it was called they were out of business and the new company had no idea how the old company did it. Just thought I would bump into someone on the forum that has done stringer or transom repair on a similar boat to mine but like I said before I guess it’s a good thing that no one has really done major work to their boat LOL

in 1999 FourWinns was still an OMC company.

In 1996, Four Winns quit using wood floors and became all fiberglass. One of the open bow models was boat of the year. I think they build a fine boat that you would be proud to own.

No not soft at all I was just wondering while I’m cooped up in the house like many people about the build quality of the boat that’s all. I’m just waiting for the weather to get nicer so I can go outside and fire her up to the season and give it a really good buff job.

If you have one wiht a full fiberglass liner for the deck, they are as good as any other production boat, if it has the carpet covered plywood deck like mine they make to about 10-12 seasons and start to rot. I did a big repair on mine, it was approx. 17 years old then (2005-2006). Replaced the deck from the helm seats to the engine, repaired stringers, etc. I had the new deck 'glassed in and gelcoated and threw that carpet in the trash. Still solid now but I keep it covered all the time, don't let water sit anywhere as much as possible. I sealed all the screw holes with 3m 4200, I found that rot started anywhere that moisture could accumulate and didn't dry out.

I never had one but know the "badge" has stood the test of time....one definition of a quality product. I remember back in the late '60's a boat dealer in Lewisville, Tx. was selling the brand and I shopped them....nice offerings..... He too is still in business, haven't checked what he is selling now.

If I had the need and one satisfied that need, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat....but I am currently happy with what I have. They show up in Craig's List boat listings all over the country.
