Hello all, hope yall had a great and safe Thanksgiving.
I have a 1985 Johnson V-4 90hp, and was just wondering I have a prop seal leaking and it will be a few weeks before I can get it in the shop for repair. But my real question is I keep hearing people talk about the foot freezing a busting because of this problem.I have changed the lower unit oil twice since we fist noticed this problem and seem to not be getting any water into the foot just a slow weep of oil coming out from around the prop when the motor stays in the trimed down position for any length of time.
Is the foot freezing and busting something I should reall worry about at this point and if so what steps should I follow to try and keep this from happening till I can get it in the shop?
I dont really winterize my boat because we fish all winter here.
Thank you for all you help..

You won't have to worry about it freezing RB as long as no water gets into it. But for sure, get it repaired ASAP. What you might be more concerned about is the seal going really bad all at once.....mostly this happens on the water. Lower unit gears don't last long with water as a lubricant. Might leave ya' stuck on the cold water.

Along the same lines with the above question.Do you have to drop the foot to replace the prop seal, because if so im gonna tell them to go ahead and get the waterpump also.
