ok a little back ground first (feel free to look at previous post as well)

Bought boat (1988 sunchaser 3.0 alpha 1) july of last year. Was told it had a cracked block, thried to patch that and it held. Took boat out to find out i was getting water in the oil. Pulled boat out to investigate and internal crack between 2 & 3 in both head and block as well as blown head gasket.......fast foward to march this year. Dad found me what he thought would work as a replacement motor at a recyl center we bought it for 65$. It would only turn 1/4 turn, which was caused by rust ring in #2 cyl. tore rest of way down, Took it to machine shop, had it magna fluxed, decked, and hot tanked, then had the head checked out as well had it decked on moth the motor side and the manifold side. Put all felpro gaskets in it relaced the oil pump, new bearings. Now i did reuse the old pistons and rings as well as the cam and lifters (old lifters were put back in the right spots) as they were showing minumal wear (looked maybe less then 20 hrs of use) swapped the motors out then replaced plugs (ac delco r43 ts) new wires. the carb was rebuilt last year and set w/o fuel in it iver the winter.

the out drive i did change out the impeller (new quicksilver oil) and oviously the oil filled froom bottom up. then did gimble bearing:mad:

got it all fired up on the muffs in the drive way carb adjusted and the timing set. Got it warmed up (guage showed 160). hold 50 psi on oil. compression is as follows in and in order #1 140, 140, 135, 130. total run time at least 1.5 hours. this thing fired up with less then 2 turns on the starter:D (my 98 firebird with 3800 efi dont start as easy as this does:facepalm:)

questions - i am going to be putting it one the water either mon or tues (when i get back home)
-what should i be looking for?
-how long should i run it before i change out this "break in" oil?
-can i expect any more preformance out of the new motor vs the old one?
-can any one suggest something that i aught to replace on it before i take it out?

sorry for the long posting here. just trying to give as much detail as i can

many many thanks to all that have helped me out on this if it was not of this forum i i proball would not have gotting this old gal back on the water till next year. again many many thanks this forum is great

1. You look out for EVERYTHING, don't just close the hatch and give it 'ell 'till oil change time. Watch for any leaks, and odd sounds,........ everything.
2. 20 hours is typical breakin time for Mercruiser & Volvo.
3. Probably not
4. Anything that is broken, not working properly or overdue for maintenance.
