So I am about to buy a boat that has a 3.0L Mercruiser engine (2005 with under 30 hours). Since I ride in Salt water I was wondering if a fresh water cooling kit is an ideal upgrade?
Locally I see hundreds of boats that sit in the salt water for many years and do fine, but I know how Salt water can cause havoc so I wanted to understand more about these Fresh Water, closed loop cooling systems.
I've read that they only cool the block, but not the engine manifolds and other stuff. If just the block is cooled is it that much of a benefit? I run in salt with jet ski's and other boats and flush my engines each and every single time I use them afterwards.
Can someone share some info on them, and if they are ideal?
