My fresh water pump lately has been going on and off, on and off, and won't completly turn off after it has pressureized the water system. Does this mean that there might be a leak in the system, and it won't completly pressureize because its letting air in, allowing the pump to kick on and off? Its driving me crazy, and I don't think its good for the pump eirther.

I would think the leak would be on the pressure side of the pump. Time to start digging in and following the hoses looking for leaks.

Sounds like a leaking check valve.

It there is no apparent leakage, it has to be a check valve allowing water back through the pump.

One more thought. The system has an accummulator (a captive air tank) which may be full of water instead of air and a little bit of water. Even the slightest leak or backflow through the check valve would cause an instant pressure drop and the pump cycles again.

you need to find the leak, or you'll be repalcing the pump also.

Re: FRESH WATER PUMP SYSTEM

You ask an interesting question. First of all air will compress but water doesn't.....so...if you are getting air into the inlet of your water system....yes it may cycle on and off. Secondly, any leak (loss of pressure) after the pump will also cause it to cycle.
It has been my experience that most leaks happen at connections and fittings....very good place to look for leaks. If you get desperate, you could start to isolate the system by plugging the inlet to the hot water heater....see if your problem stops there.
