Fresh water supply hose kinked...the fix??

88 Alpha one gen one (lake water cooled)

My engine has been running warm so figured it was time to do the impeller. After pulling off the drive , inspecting the bellows and such I noticed the fresh water hose behind the bellhousing going through the transom is kinked pretty bad. I search through the service manual but didnt see how this can be fixed (i could have missed it). what needs to be done to do this?

Replace it, there is no fixing it. I would get the proper OEM hose, and be sure to use the curve of the hose to your advantage. you also have to make sure you get the hose all the way on both fittings.
Section 4B of the OEM service manual explains how to replace it.

I replaced mine last summer. You are about to experience a test of your manual dexterity. Heating [CAREFULLY] the ends of the hose, helped a lot, I used a paint stripping heat gun. Boiling/hot water would be best. Less chance of damage. Then a little dish soap for lube and away you go....I haven't read the service manual that Don recommends, But take his advise first! I have a Clymers Manual. If I remember correctly, I also disconnected the hose from the thru-transom connector.[inside the boat, from the transom to the engine. Then unbolted the connector and pushed it aft and had more access, cant remember if that was totally necessary however.

Ill take a look at the manual again... my main question is, i have the drive off but does the bellhousing and ring have to come off as well?

I originally did it without taking the bell housing off, because I wasnt going to change the u joint bellows. It was a bee-yatch that way.Then I decided to change the bellows after all. then it would have been really easy to attach the fwd end of the hose. Ring doesnt have to come off at all. How old is your shift cable bellows and ujoint bellows? You may want to change it all out as long as your in it that far. What happened to me is that I was just going to replace my broken lower shift cable. But when I got in there I figured I may as well do it all. The 2 bellows, I didnt bother with exhaust bellows ,lower shift cable and updated shift shaft bushings [ and water hose]. About $250 in parts I think. Glad I did now, Im race ready...

so removing the ujoint bellows will make life easier then ?( i do have new bellows and the tool)
i just called the marina and they claim there are two different size hoses...5/8 and 3/4...my boat is 40 minutes away so i have no idea what size I have... jeesh

Removing [unbolting the hinge pins] for the bell housing will give you more access.You can then kinda pull it over to the side. The bellows should be glued,as well as clamped on. Dont know that I would want to remove and replace the same one. It would require a lot of cleaning of the mounting surfaces to get a good seal again. Again, how old is the u joint bellows? Mine didnt leak for 20 yrs, but people on this site say to change it every 3 or so years. Is there any rust etc around your u joints. I got my hose on with bell housing installed however. My 86 Alpha 1 gen 1 had the larger hose 3/4 in BTW.
