It was suggested on another site, to add a little dishwashing soap to the fauset end of the hose when flushing an outboard that has been used in saltwater. My outboard is a 1996 30HP evinrude, lots & lots of hours, used in saltwater, ALWAYS flushed after every use. Still the original water pump. THOUGHTS?

You are headed for a melt down running with a 8 year old water pump.

What is the detergent supposed to remove? Certainly not salt. Maybe they think it's dirty in there. Water dissolves salt.

Don't add so much soap that you get so many air bubbles in the tank that the water pump cavitates.
