Hello fellow boaters, hope everyones season is going good so far.I have a friend/aquaintance that has a "2002 Lowe sun crusier jamaca 220" that has a 75hp Yamaha on it,or maybe a evenrude 75hp.Anyways,he has a problem that after he hooked up the battery backwards,he has no starting issue now.He said that it has lights and horn but nothing else. Can you give me an idea on what I need to look for when I get down there afterwork tonight. Thanks for your time,,Odie

Lights and horn don't care which way you hook up the battery. The ECM in a motor is a lot more particular.

Is there a normal fuse panel on this boat,or am I going to be looking for some hidden fuses somewhere??

Should be a fuse somewhere under the cowl, most likely on the same side as the electrical goodies. If he's lucky it blew before anything was fried. Start there.

Just to clarify, I'm only talking about the outboard. House panel and accessories is an entirely different matter. Hopefully there's a main in line fuse on the house panel's positive cable. Mine is right by the battery FWIW.

I did that on a Supercharged, 500 hp Mustang once. Very embarrassing. Used a battery with reverse polarity and did nto notice.....DUMB. Anyway, the car went click, and the battery actually smoked. I swapped it out, and it started fine. Never blew a fuse or had any issues.

A lady across the road from us at our local campground, brought her battery from home and stuck it into her camper... backwards. Nothing but lights worked. I went to take a peek, and pulled the cover on the fuse panel. It blew two 40 amp fuses -- swapped the fuses out (and reversed the wiring) and all was fine. Hope this is the case for your friend!!!

That's what fuses are for after all. Is anyone else dying to know how it turned out? Hope we get a report this morning.

Well tore into the wiring harness lastnight didnt see any obvious looking fuses, the closer i got to the motor i found this weird little plastic box with electrical tape around it.I un-wrapped it and low and behold there were two 30 amp fuses in there about a half inch long.I changed both of them and the boat fired right up.Thanks everyone for your input,i knew I could count on you guys.

Ya gotta love all the info and help you can get here, it's great to know that you are not alone when you are felling lost and before you go for a ---HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit.
