Frige only works on AC, will not switch over to DC

I have a 1996, 26 Wellcraft excell.
It has the typical little frige all small cabin cruisers have.
It only works on AC when connected to shore power, it will not switch over to DC when the shore power is disconnected. I removed the fringe and power and ground to the back of it is good. Does anyone have any ideas on what part to replace or something to check would be great. I really dont want to buy a whole new frige.

My old boat had a relay that would only allow the fridge to run when the engine or generator was running...

If you have the correct power to it the only thing left is to see if has power to the relay. If so can you take it apart and check it or replace it if it does not switch to 12 Volts. Nothing to lose here.

No relay here, 12v always to the back of the frige. Thanks for the suggestion anyways. What year mustang Lyle?
