Well you guys are gonna love this one. I did it just last night and laughed my *** off after I figured out WTF was going on.

So I back the boat down the ramp and Im ready to start it up and get it over to the dock. Well the motor cranks and cranks and cranks and it wonk kick over. I give it a little gas and start to crank on it again., Still no go. WTF is going on here? The motor would have normally been started like 10 times by now.

SO I think I flooded it now and wait and see what happens. I open the throttle all the way up and start the motor. It revs all the way up sounds like it will start but after the rpms run down they go all the way to 0 and no fire. WTF? is this thing flooded to hell or what?

So I pull the boat back up the ramp ( 10 lane and no traffic at all ) pull up to flat ground and start tinkering and trying to find obvious problems. The bat just ran like a bat out of hell Tuesday night w/ no signs of problems so what the hell is going on tonight of all nights? two other friends had there older boats at the dock and were getting ready to go out I had gotten there about an hour ahead witch was good as we really didnt looses any time because of my dumb *** problem.

SO I sit back and scratch my head trying to figure out what is wrong all of a sudden. Then it hits me like a 4-TON pile of bricks! Wednesday I was cleaning the boat from the previous night out and decided to turn off the lanyard switch for safety and security. I keep the tongue on my trailer LOCKED open and figured cool, of someone breaks in and tries to steal my boat the locked open tongue will be a problem But if they cut the lock Im screwed. BUT If I turn off the lanyard switch they probably wont know about it and wont be able to start the motor.
Yea that works too when I forget about it and Im at the dock going crazy!

I flipped the switch on and cranked the motor over and it fires right up. I run back down the ramp and launch the boat like I normally do and not have a single problem the rest of the night LOL.......

Thought this was a great place to post that as thats a classic Homer Simpson moment!

Glad ya got it started! But..you started it OUT of the water with no hose? NOT good for the impeller!

I did the same lanyard trick a few months ago myself...but we were in teh water. I wear a mustang auto live vest, so I keep it on all the time. Got to our fishing spot, got up, dropped the trolling motor and fished for a few hours. Got ready to leave and she wouldnt crank..took about 15 mins before I realized what it was.

Oh yea I did it out of the water just cranking hte motor till I relised why it wasnt starting
Then when I finally got it started I ran it less then 10 seconds just so the impeller didnt burn up. Took the boat out last night and it runs great impeller is fine water temp is right where it should be!

Would you use that language in front of your Mom or daughter, Bayliner?

Please don't use it in front of ours.

Re: Friggen Lanyard switch.........DOE!

I did the same thing a few weeks ago when I wanted to start my boat just to run it. Hooked the flush kit up to it, primed it and turned it over, wouldn't start. I'm thinking what in the world is wrong; this is a new boat. Then I realized when I parked and put the cover on. I set the Lanyard switch in the off position after I disconnected the batts. My first time out on the water I got stranded about 6 miles away from the ramp because the engine wouldn't even turn over. I would turn the key; hear the fuel pump prime, but no starter turn over. Figured it was a short in the key switch or something. I popped the crowl and took a screwdriver to the starter solenoid and the + terminal on the starter and it turned over and fired up. I'm sitting here wondering what in the heck is wrong. So I turned the engine off and tried to turn it back on with the key and it did the same thing. After restarting with my screwdriver trick I noticed the prop turned when the engine fired up and realized it was just still in gear :(

LOL.. It was barely in gear. I simply didn't pull it back far enough to put it in neutral. That would have suckeeeeeed since I don't use my Lanyard. Boat would have taken off hauling aZZ into something :(
