My problems mirror a few posts here but I have a few more. Its a 87-89 got it for a few bucks after blowing up my 115.It was sitting for a few years when I got it.I have cleaned the carbs followed the de-carb directions in this forum. It misses a lick or two every other rotations and badly!Sea foamed it.That seemed to clear it up,butwhen I put it in the water it won't even idle rushing to the back with cover off I manage to grab the linkage rev it up it revs then just quits?making a funny noise in the process like a faint honking sound? ran about 4 gallons of fuel through it.Tank is fine(clean)!carbs been cleaned 5 times just to see 150 140 150 125 is the compression.Plugs are new but not the Qs you guys speak of.Carbs are sincro-ed.Wires are new does backfire a small amount through 1 or two carbs while reving does fine with the muffs on though?did I miss anything NO #S but I looked for days online found it has to be 1 of those due to the hood design Any clue to what is going on?

I think you need to check out that 125 cylinder.

thx for the response. But I was told that it falls below the 15% range.I soaked it overnight in seafoam piston @tdc or just below.Still runs good with the muffs but as soon as it hits the water it wont idle?

10% is the range, and it is barely outside of that. But, still outside. At least check the plug in that cylinder. If it looks steam-cleaned you have a head gasket leak.

Running good on the muffs and not in the water usually means you've got one cylinder out.

Check the low cylinder, and do a spark test.

Sounds like the coil is bad. And, yes it's a fairly common problem. Swap the coil with another cylinder and see if the problem follows the coil. If so, you know what to replace.

Also, if this motor is new to you, replace the impeller and do a decarb as per the FAQ.

Well I replaced a coil,And its still missing every other lick. But then it will miss but the rpms will really slow down, then sput then die.I did notice the (disconnected)oil pump/fuel?pump was making a clicking sound?any idea what the little red switch is for on what looks like the fuel pump??
