From long to short shaft. Tips/ideas for cutting water tube?

I have an older 6hp johnson. It was originally a long shaft. I took a short shaft lower unit off a donor motor, and the fitting for the shift rod.

So I have everything I need for the conversion, except the copper water-pump tube. I tried taking it out of the donor, but wouldn't budge.

So my plan is to cut the longer tube to size. Any ideas on the best way to do this? (without taking it out)

Engine upside down, see the water tube?:

and the lower unit/pump: (sorry for the quality)

i have never done it, but i understand you want to cut exactly 5 inches off it. a carbide cutting blade on a dermel is what i would try. get some other opinions first.

The water tube is simply stuck due to (no doubt) salt corrosion. However, the tube must be cut (if that's your intentions) exactly five (5) inches. There is a small tube cutter, available at any automotive parts type store, approximately 1-1/4" square by about 1/2" thick that will fit up the exhaust tube if necessary that will do that cutting job easily.

if you measure the piece you removed .that is the amt to cut from tube, which I think is 5 in.you can get a plumbers copper tube cutter .the kind for tight spaces OR,get a dremal tool ,borrow or?? and cut the tube with the circular cutter

I have one of the tube cutters, but I'm not getting that little thing inside the smaller mid section. the dremel was my thought too...

If that's the original cowling, it's a '76. But to be certain, you'll need the model & s/n.

Sheese, grab hold of that tube and twist and pull. It will come out of the upper rubber grommet. Oil it up to reinsert.

Hint: if you have one, the clamping part of a copper tube flaring tool makes a great way to get a grip on the tube and twist/pull.

Sure it'll push your boat. Is it within the weight and horsepower rating on the boat?

Not a bad idea....

edit: Purely a genius idea! pulled right out!

max hp is 8, weight is 765lbs. how the tiny thing holds that much is beyond me.
