I have a Ventura twin axle trailer rated at 9k pounds. I have disk brakes up front and free roller hubs in back. I am considering putting in electric brakes and ditching the surge system I currently have. I have looked for information to help with the decision but have come up short so I need your help.

Reasons for wanting to do the convention : I tow about 4k miles a year in some pretty mountainous roads. I am wanting better response from the brakes when in heavy interstate traffic. I Alison have a tough backing situation for backing the boat up the driveway and even with the electric lockout I still need to chuck the wheels to free the breaks before backing. (When starting the back up the truck and trailer are on a steep down hill.)

My truck is a 2009 F250 Larime 6.4 diesel. Class IV trailer hitch, factory installed electric brake controller with 4, 5, and 7 pinn connection for wiring. I would Really like to use the factory installed electric controller. My coupler is a Titan model 10, bolt on, surgomatic, 2 5/16 ball. It bolts onto the top of the frame rail and the coupler is in line with the trailer frame. The coupler looks like it is a drop down but it actually drops down so it is in line with the trailer frame.

My questions : What new coupler do I need that would bolt on? What break actuator would I need that would bolt onto my new coupler and would be a simple plug in to the current electrical that is currently installed? What other things am I missing? What are the things I need to be cautious about with doing this conversion?
Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you are looking to install electric over hydraulic and not just electric... If just electric, there is no actuator on the tongue.

You really don't need a new coupler either. Remove the guts from it and have a local welder weld it solid. Your truck already has an electric brake controller so you don't need anything else. Remove the hydraulic backing plates and hubs and replace with the electric counterparts. Run the two wires to the front and add them to the 7-pin connector.

You may also see if you can just set the lockout so it is always set (avoid using duck tape). You may also have to install a 10 amp fuse for the break controller. I do not know why they are not factory installed, but rarely are.

Please keep us posted on what you buy and how it works a buddy of mine has a heritage big tandem axle with disc brakes on both axles and he can't stand them feels like they just don't work and are always sticking. You have to jerk it to get them to unstick. I am not sure to rebuild coupler switch to electric over hydraulic or full electric.
