Wow, I've never heard of the siarria??? What is it?

How does it engage/disengage (lever on the floor, dash push button, etc.)?

Does it have locking hubs?

Re: front axle not disengaging

Ive seen where the gears stick and stay engaged. The whole axle stub will have to come off to repair properly. I guess the other thing to add is does the
front axle stay engaged when the actuator is taken out of the housing. If not you may have a continual power to the actuator. Ive also seen this. The switch on the transfer case sticks in the on position.

Yep...it's either a bad switch (constant voltage) or possibly your new actuator is bad (it happens).

Pull the kick panel and get to the wiring (it's the passenger side). You have corrosion. Get some wd, some contact cleaner and dielectric grease. Take apart the wires and plug...clean....clean...clean re-assemble and try again. The wires into and out of the control module get corroded more so than the actuator itself.

Those wires are very prone to corroding.

Hmmmmm.

Did you try coming to a dead stop, disengaging, then backing up about 10 feet?

Had to do that to my '87 and '93 Ranger 4x4s or the front would not disengage.

Re: front axle not disengaging

its a floor shift and manual transmission no pushbutton. i will try removing the actuator and see if it will disengaged if it does ill try swapping out the actuator from my 89 Chevy silverado. if it still stays engaged without the actuator installed how hard is it to remove the axel stub to fix it and what would i look for once the stub is removed.

btw you guys are great im still arguing with the guys on the Chevy forum about weather or not its actually engaged

Re: front axle not disengaging

Its not hard. Unbolt the right axle off the axle stub. There is two bolts that
hold the axle stub to the frame and i think 6 bolts that hold it to the differential. When apart look for anything that that is not right eg; broken spring, worn gears. Make shure you use a good sealer when resealing the stub to the housing.

ps what makes you think the front end is not disengaging. Just wondering.

Re: front axle not disengaging

you can tell its not disengaging for a few reasons one, the front drive shaft u joint is starting to go out and you hear the thing clicking, another in 2 high you cant turn the front driveshaft if you jack up the front tires and turn the driveshaft the front tires turn. or if you turn the tires the drive shaft turns. i havent had a chance to pull the acuator out and see if it will disengage yet. hopfully ill get a chance to try that today
