Guys, my front pully, crankshaft pully eats into the trim housing when trimmed all the way up. Whats the deal? I have no reason to trim up that high, but a friend was pulling me skiing and i guess thumb got on the button. It cut my power steering belt and im sure it ate on the pully. I knew it would hit, had deep rub marks when i replaced the engine, but didnt think of a novice driver accidently hitting it. Is that natural? And does anyone have the common gates belt numbers? 81. Omc stringer. Had omc200 305, now 350.

Sounds like maybe the new motor is a little large for the old motor trim system?

Both are sbc engines. Trim had grooves cut in it from the original motor i noticed when i had it apart. I rebuilt the stringers last year, i measured everything before i pulled everything and put it back the same. I guess it may have been placed wrong in the first place or is there a stop that im missing?

The new OMCs had a hydraulic trim system on the front of 'em. I'm not very familiar with is, so I don't really know. Mine is a jackscrew type, and I don't think there's any way to trim it so that it would hit anything that's turnin'. I suppose pushing a different engine into the same mounts could change that, but I don't really know.
