Attempting to remove my king pin to free up the steering on my 86 50. The upper shock mount bolts/screws are frozen solid as is one of the stainless allen screws on the lower kingpin cover. Anyone have any good ideas how to remove these bolts. The allen head is just about stripped out as well, not sure the wrench will have enough grab to work it free or not.

Re: frozen bolts

Heat is probably your bet best coupled with penetrating oil. I used those portable propane gas when my kicker solidly froze. I have to continue oiling it and shooting grease while heating it until it starts smoking and un-freeze the kingpin. Just make sure you empty the carbs well and also use some heat shields. As for the almost stripped cap screw, try forcing in a metric one if not you will have to weld the allen wrench to unscrew it.

You can buy a
detail tip at Lowe's that fits those camping cylinders. They give you a controlled flame at least.

I've already pulled the power head so heat shouldn't be an issue.

Re: frozen bolts

I use heat lots of it.
Your probably not gonna get it apart unless you destroy all the mounts etc.
Try heating the area and adding grease as you go.

Remember there are plastic bushings at the top and bottom of the kingpin.
Too much heat will melt them and it will NEVER turn.

Too much pressure on the grease zerts will pop them out.
I had to drill new holes and add fittings for the kingpin.
