I located a nice 6 hp evinrude, probably somewhere around '65 model , exactly what would fit the bill for my square stern canoe- except it's been on the kicker bracket so long it's totally frozen on[ salt water use] .I heated it up with a torch [carefully] and squirted on some ''liquid wrench'' and plan on leaving it over night.
Anybody have any ideas?
It seems ok- except the tiller has broken[happened when backing up the trailer]Arteparts for them still available?

Re: frozen clamp bolts

thanks for the advice- and I hope it works, we left it on overnight and will see if it's loosened this morning.I tapped it with a light hammer yesterday in an attempt to break the bond, but to no avail
If it doesn't work- now what? Do I cut the bolt free, and attempt to drill it out?I'm afraid of breaking the clamp if I try too hard.

Find a way to allow you to smack the clamp with a hammer where it is formed around the threads of the screw. You may want to add a bigger hammer just on the opposite side of the clamp to support the clamp to amplify the shock to the area desired. After repeated smacking and nearly deforming the threaded area of the clamp should loosen to the threads.

"Rust Eater" has always worked well for me. Available at most Auto Zone stores. Again, spray and let soak, you may even have to let it soak for a week or more, then try to turn bolt back and forth gently but with enough force to actually move the bolt. If it breaks loose, spray again, let soak and keep working the bolt till it screws loose.Patience and perservernce will pay off in the long run. Have fun!
