Help! I am trying to pull my gimbal bearing to replace it and there is so much corrosion around it, it is frozen in there. I am using a Sliding hammer puller on it and it won't budge. Any magic bullets on getting one out. I did remove the snap ring just incase someone thinks I might not have. :)

use a 3 jaw puller on a threaded rod with a metal plate that will put pressure against the bell housig after the plate there should be a nut keep turning the nut to apply pressure to the bell housing and the jaws should pull it right out

I used a snap-on gm wheel bearing puller.. took about a half hour of beating but it worked.

try a penetrating oil, pb blaster from auto parts store. let sit overnight after spraying. cuss. heat housing with a hair dryer. cuss some more. an electronics freezing spray along with heat might break it free. i used a method similar to ba's reply and took it slow. don't know where to get such a puller though, i made mine in a shop. oh, and i cussed some too!

Re: Frozen Gimbal Bearing

Thanks, I will probably try a little of all of them. this is on a 73 chapparal and it has been in the ocean a few times it looks like.

I did get my motor running after replacing the manifold and putting a new head gasket on it though. I did alot of cussing when I found the price for the manifold. Specially sinc eI bought the motor last year and just got around to installing it.

:) Now I tink I will cuss a little more.
