Due to not using it enough, my 115 Mercury (6 Cyl, inline) steering cable seems to be frozen in the lower tube. I have twin cable system and the lower cable appears to be stuck in the tube. I hesitated in "banging away" at the cable end due to fear of distorting the SS connector end.. I unscrewed the inside cable nut (left side of tube, facing engine) and lubed the cable then re connected the nut, hoping that I'll be able to budge this cable when I try this weekend. I'm concerned that there might be an internal connector or screw -in connection inside the tube and want to avoid destroying what may be repairable..... Top cable is fine.... Any ideas ????

Re: Frozen Steering 115 Mercury

Put a 3/8" bolt in the eye of the ram to keep it's shape and beat away with a chunk of wood or plastic between the hammer and ram. The tilt tubes on those seem prone to corrosion in salt water. Ya gotta keep em greased. 2-4-C is good, Special Lube 101 is better (and messier).
