I run a 350 engine with pro line heads and a comp marine cam, around a 503 lift [ dont have the specs on me] , Stealth intake and eld 600 carb.

I run my fuel pressure at 6 1/2 psi is this a good place to start.

And i was told to set my timming to 9* at idle, this is with a msd billet dist, and i have no clue what rpm it starts to advance at or if this is a good spot to start at. My boat only rev's to 4100 so i guess it is advanced by then?

Should be fine on fuel pressure, I would call MSD's tech line and find out the advance curve of that dist.

Re: fuel and msd billet dist questions

I was told the dist is a marine one, only number i can find is 55E5. The carb part number is 1405 1300

I was told by the guy that gave me the dist that it has the spring in it that advance 20* and 2600 rpm. I set mine to 9* at idle so it should be 29* total , is that good

Ayuh,.... The Marine Edlebrock would be 1409,.... I have my doubts with the distributer...

29? should be safe,... Be careful of dentoation with the Big prop you've got...
You need 4800rpms at WOT...

other parts on the engine

msd marine inj box
Weiand Stealth Intake Manifold

Pro Action Redtopline Heads 180cc x 64cc
Comp Cam Beehive Springs Good For 550 Lift
Ferrea Valves 1.94 Intake / 1.50 Exhaust

Comp Cams 12-244-4 "Xtreme Marine" Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifter Kit
Fits 265-400 cu.in. small block Chevrolet V8s
Comp Cams "Xtreme Marine" camshaft is the latest series of hydraulic cams to take advantage of the newest development of camshaft design and valve train technology. It has an aggressive lobe design that produces better throttle response than other cams with the same duration and they still deliver strong engine vacuum. "Xtreme Marine" cams can be used for any high performance application where both low to mid-range torque and good throttle response are desired.
RPM Range: 2,000 to 6,200 rpm
Duration @ .050" lift: 234/244 (int/exh)
Valve lift: .498/.500 (int/exh)
Good for jet boat with A or B impeller, good off shore high performance cam, rough idle.
Comp Cams 12-244-4
? Aggressive lobe design
? Excellent throttle response
? Strong vacuum
? Excellent in high performance applications
? Good low to mid-range torque

Intake Style Dual plane
Basic Operating RPM Range 1,500-6,700

I know its a little bit of a crazy setup, i bought it this way so the boat would be running fast

You should have done a little more research. Assuming you have an alpha I (although I saw something about a jet boat in there) you don't want to spin more than 4500rpms or so. The cam you should have gotten should have had a range from 1000-5000 or so in order to make all of your power down low. You don't want to be spinning the motor up at 6K rpms, the outdrive will be toast in short order. I also agree with Bond-O that you don't likely have a marine carburetor or distributor.

The heads you bought sound like they are probably aluminum high-flow heads, which is fine, just don't go play in saltwater without a closed-cooling system.

Re: fuel and msd billet dist questions

I'am going to get a 19 prop and see if that will help a little. If it makes it to winter i'll pull the engine and put the right cam in with the rebuild.

The heads are steel heads

I need to try and adj the carb , god knows what its set at right now. Is the eld carb hard to adj and setup

Re: fuel and msd billet dist questions

might have found part of the problem, one of my meter rods in the carb broke in half and was just laying in the jet
