Can anyone give me an average fuel consumption per hour on a 1986 90 hp mercury pushing a 20 ft fiberglass boat of about 2800 lbs and at cruising speed? Thanks.

"Wow.. That's horrible" L O L :D :D
I have only owned my first OB for 1 year.. A small 2 stroke 50 Merc.
I noticed that it was guzzling more fuel than a 426 Dodge Daytona.. and I was told that I could expect around 5 Knots per gallon (Hope that was US gallon,3.83l coz that Aussie one is 4.54 litres)
I reckon the dodge would be more economical..
It's something like 10% hp X gall per hr at WOT 5000-5500 rpm ??
Rick has taken into account you rather large vessel and would be pretty close.
It works out pretty right for my boat..
Top speed @28 knots 50 hp
It would take 1 hr to get 28 nautical miles and use 5 gallons which is about 5kpg

If you prop it to make 5500 rpm and then cruise it at 4000-4100, you might do a bit better. The trick is to cruise it at full spark advance - but before the carbs open up.

-W
