Fuel can tray

I have a Lund fishing boat with a carpeted floor, the fuel can was sitting on a piece of carpet, I wanted something better. I started with an e-bay search no luck, then a google search found one. No way I am paying 30 some $ for something that simple. I got creative on the e-bay search and found the perfect solution a 14" x 18" plastic cafeteria tray, velcro it in place and it cost me $2.34 and free shipping.

Should work OK, if the plastic does not soften/melt from the gas. I have an old MCdonalds tray that I use for carb rebuilds. Even carb cleaner don't affect the plastic.

Poly pro plastic has edges to contain any spillage.
