Fuel Connector seals

Do the feul connectors at the tank and then at the outboard ever need replacing? I am referring to the plug in type with barbs (Johnson/Evinrude). Engine was choking up unless I sqeezed primer bulb then everything was fine.

Certainly, if they leak. Any leak allows the fuel pump to suck air instead of gas.
