What would be an approximate fuel consumption rate for a crossfow 115 Johnson. Thinking of going to a smaller fuel tank and need a guideline.

The rule of thumb is 10% of the horsepower is gallons per hour at wide open throttle. You can save a little by throttling back slightly once on plane.

So your saying maybe 10 gal/hr.

I didn't realize it was that much. Maybe I should rethink this and actually go to a bigger tank.

Keep in mind that figure is at wot(wide open throttle)
Could be as low as 3 to 4 gph at a moderate cruising speed.
As I'm allways raving about if you fine tune your setup motor height, trim,
prop selection you can improve your performance Still be about 10gph at wot but you'll have a little more speed so mpg will improve.A careful tuneup wouldn't hurt too.

thats at wide open throttle, it really depends on how you are running. if you feather back to about 7/8 throttle they get better economy.

Well the boat is a 18ft cc with a 115 on it. it has an above deck tank that is 26gal and doesn't fit under the console very well. I'm redoing the deck and 'm thinking about putting a smaller tank under the deck. For the dimensions I can get a Moeller 18 gal tank.
This does not leave me alot of cruise time ;even at 6 gal/he only leaves me 3hrs.

Looks like I'll have to rethink this whole thing.
