tried to post earlier & something happened i apologize if there is an incomplete posting my merc 115 6 cyl bogs down when i throttle up and the gas bulb collapse a guy at the duck said my bulb had a hole and another guy had some duct tape so i taped it up and took it out for a test spin. The per formance was slightly better but after getting up on plane still bogs out. Put the boat on the trailer and once in the parking lot to secure the boat for the road i took a look at my fuel line and noticed the connection at the gas tank locks into place but the side opposite where the fuel travels out of the tank into the fuel line has a 1/8 to 3/16 inch gap and has play in it. Is it normal for the gas tank connection to have that play in it or is that not acceptable ? My motor is freshly rebuilt with a new prop and impeller & it runs great with the muffs attached but i don't rev it up without a load on it. Also it will idle great in the water and even a bit above an idle she will putt right along no stumbles or hesitations i just need to know if i'm looking in the right direction as far as thinking it's a fuel problem

Re: fuel delivery problem ?

The problem sounds fuel side related. Get a new bulb for starters. If it were me, I would replace all fuel lines and connectors from the tank to the fuel pump. But there is a clear fuel line test to check for air bubbles if you don't want to tear it all apart right away. Also check the air vent on the tank for a restriction. Here is the link to that how to:

Yes, definately make sure that there are no air leaks or restrictions in the fuel line. A lean fuel mixture can cause the motor to overheat and melt down. Not to scare you but it is good for you to know the risk before you run the motor at high speed again without fixing it. The below linked guides on testing for fuel starvation may also be of help to you.
