Fuel disconnect

Does a fuel disconnect serve any other purpose than that? I never use a portable fuel tank and prefer not to replace my defective disconnect unless I have to. Can't I just make up a permanent connection?

Yes, you are correct. No matter what size motor you're talking about the quick connect can be eliminated if you never use it. On some larger motors it's recommended you don't have a quick connect as it may become a fuel flow restriction.
