Man its expensive!
Got into replacing it on my Chris Craft yesterday.
The old hose was stamped made in 1979..

It was all cracked and looked bad so i tore the boat apart and got the old hose out.

54 inches of new hose...75 bucks! Ouch!

At least now i feel good that every fuel line is new, fill, vent and line to the motor...:D

Good thing i taped a rope to the end of the old line.I would have never fished the new line back to the tank without it...One of those deals where you can barely get 2 fingers on the clamps inside the gunnel...

I'll bet the new one wasn't quite as stiff as the old :)

Replaced mine a couple of years ago. Looked like new until I turned it over and saw the wire cords rusting thru the cover where it was in contact with the floor all those years.

Yes,the new one was a bit more flexible. My old one had the wires rusting through it too.
Now if i get a fuel smell in the bilge the only thing left is the tank...I hope no more smell..
The only time i smelled it was after filling up so i hope the hoses fixed it.

Best price I found on fill and fuel feed hose. $5.54/ft for 1.5" fill hose. Shields brand. Used it on both the MFG and Bayliner with no problems.

Been ordering from this store for 6 years, not one screw-up. Great customer service, great prices, great shipping, website sucks.

Yup, I did mine last year- all original hose. Getting the old one out of the boat nearly defeated me. It was the only time I came close to throwing in the towel. Ya can't cut it, ya can't bend it- it's a bear, alright!

You need to start getting cozey with a dealer so you can get parts at wholesale. I do and it makes a whole bunch of difference, especially when the parts guy is about to price something out and I tell him "this is for me, whatever you can do would be awesome"

If you visit the same dealer more than a few times a month bringing them a coffee cake the first few times works wonders :)

Been trying that with the local dealer...no luck!
I'm in there at least 2 times a week for parts.
I told the parts guy yesterday the hose was for my personal boat.
He said if i pay cash he can give me a deal at 75 bucks...Geeze!
They charge almost a buck each for the blue drain and fill washers for Merc lowers....I buy those by the bag...
Was going to pick up some gear lube...they raised the price to 16.99 a quart!

Ayuh,.... I can buy Merc parts at List price,...
Or,..
I go to Napa,+ pay about 1/2 of List, or Less....

If you're doin' on-site boat Repairs,...
You need to get Hooked Up, to start getting Jobber prices from your suppliers....
'ell,... You should be making a Major chunk of your Profit off the Parts....

Re: Fuel fill hose

I get Napa parts at jobber cost. Which isn't always the best because Napa isn't always the cheapest.
But my Merc dealer gives me 15% off retain for anything that they make 30% on or less (basically splits the profit between cost and retail) and will do 20 to 25% off anything they make over 30% on.
I've only asked them for a few things over the years for me. If it's a normal order/off the shelf part its cost if cash, cost plus 5% if I charge it. If I have to order it, it's the same thing except I pay for shipping.
They are also a BRP PAC dealer. I get between 10-20% off also depding on what it is.

Qts of HP gear lube for like 10-11 bucks. Blue washer for 2 bucks a 4 pack.

But I do drop off coffee cakes a few times a year and send the card at christmas time.... You definitely need to find a different dealer.

Re: Fuel fill hose

I bought 10 feet of 1 1/2inch fill hose for $54, same place Mark gets his stuff.
Everything about that job is tough, getting the old hose out and getting the new hose coupled to the fill nozzle. I did the overflow hose too.
If I have to do that again I'm using the sawzall.

Let me get this right, itsa illegal to overflow into the boat but if you get any fuel in the ocean thats illegal.?

Well, the CG regs say no overflow can run into the boat (and that includes the motor well). I'm cool with that. I'm not sure what the rules/regulations/laws on spilling in the water is.

Re: Fuel fill hose

I have been using Napa on some parts.
The manager is getting me the updated Marine parts book..mine is a 2006.
They also said they could hook me up with a commercial account.
I will be checking into that next week..

My local dealer is a rip-off...the owner is really rude.
Unless you are there looking to buy a new boat they ignore the heck out of you.

Re: Fuel fill hose

Got a couple of places up here like that. (Russo's marine, they stink).
I don't want to name my sources in total public here. But I have 4 or 5 dealers that I can just walk into with my blue dickies and my knit polo stitched with my name and logo that hook me up. Some are a little better than others discount wise but I never pay retail for anything. I was sort of born with a silver tongue though... any many moons ago I was a retail sales manager and sales trainer so that may have something to do with it.
If anybody needs recommendations on shops (besides me of course :) ) (shameless plug) Let me know through PM.
