Hi all,

I have a 3.5hp Mariner (~1981) serial number 642 S 022031 and while attempting to take off the screw on clear plastic sediment (?) bowl (part number 15303M) below the fuel filter assembley, I cracked and broke the bottom of it  Have sourced the part ($6) in the US but the dealer want to charge me $40 to UPS it here to Ireland. As these parts are no longer available in Ireland my mechanic suggested replacing the fuel filter assembly with a sealed in-line one. however I would have to also put in a seperate fuel shut off valve. My questions are thus: (a) will it affect the running of my motor if I bypass the original fuel filter assembly with a new one? (b) are these threaded bowls generic, i.e. would I be able to get one from a dead engine? (c) or would someone have this part lying around and be willing to shove it in an envelope and send it on to me, obviously would be reimbursed.

Many many thanks
Ciaran

Re: Fuel filter bypass

hello
if this is a 2 inch long by 1 inch dia bowl then some of the yamahas and tohatsus and suzukis used the same filter set up. a dead engine would be a likly donor.the carb really does not care what filters the fuel as long as the system does not leak.

Re: Fuel filter bypass

Hi Rodbolt,

thanks for the reply, will keep a look out, in the mean time have bypassed it with an in-line filter. seems to be working ok except that the engine is dying at idle speeds which means a carb rebuild .... has to be done. thanks again for your help.

Ciaran
