Trying to locate the fuel filter on 1971 Mercury 500 50 hp......have checked all the fuel lines and it's not obvious to this rookie where it is.......motor runs great but hard to get started seems like lack of fuel....want to check the fuel filter. Boat sat for 12 years before we got it running last week. BTW it runs great and really pushes the 16 foot duck ark. Thanks for the help.

Re: Fuel Filter Location

I remember reading somewhere that it is advisable to remove those inlet screens on the carbs and install an in-line filter instead. With the in-line filter you can see the condition of it. The inlet screeens are hidden and not easily accessed and if they plug up the motor could run lean resulting in a burnt piston or worse.
