I got some info on here suggesting to put a water seperator on my mercruiser 3.0l inboard engine. I have the mechanical fuel pump and was wondering does the water seperator go between tank and fuel pump or pump and carb. Also do i need an inline plastic type fuel filter and if so is it before or after pump and before or after water seperator. If you can follow me any info would be appreciated, thanks matt

Plastic in-line filter before the water separator, water separtor before the fuel pump. This ensures you have no contaminents before it enters any part of the engine/fuel pump. There is usually a small plastic filter in the carbuertor inlet as a last line of defense.

They are the same thing, not 2 different items.
The media in the filter also seperates water out of the gas.

No,....

Put the cannister type filter, Before the fuel pump,...
Then replace the filter inside the fuel pump,+ the 1 inside the carb...
After that,...
Replace the cannister filter annually, or whenever water becomes a problem...

Yeah - if you have already bought the plastic inline filter, go ahead and throw it away. Neither safe nor needed for your application.
