Fuel filter/water seperator replacement question

I'm planning on replacing the Yamaha fuel/water seperator filter on my boat but I don't know if I can just re-use it after dumping out any water, rather than replacing it (it's about one year old). Is that advisable? Thanks!

Dumping it out will get rid of any water but how are you going to clean the particulate out of the filter media?

Throw it out and install new.

be sure to fill new one with proper fuel, to make priming the system much easier.

General proceedure is replace it once a year. That is so rust (external or internal) won't put you and family in harms way.
