I have an old Clinton outboard. model J7 serial# 36056. I have overhauled the engine and carburator. The lower unit is free and feels smooth. In order to get this thing on the water, I need help with the following : Fuel fitting for motor to external tank. This is one weird set up. the gas fittings are built into the pivot handle. However, this appears to be a single line snap on OR turn on fitting. Correct spark plug and gap? also if anyone has any suggestions about a starting place for carb adjustments. My most grateful thanks. Littleperk

The fuel fitting for Chrysler outboards should work on that connector. It's typical for most of these Clinton-made outboards.

You can find one anywhere boating supplies are sold.

I don't find a listing for the J7 but the J5 and J9 use J12J plugs present day number should be J12C.Set at .025.Initial settings on Tillotson
MC carb would be high speed one turn out from gently bottomed low speed 3/4 turn. Some carbs have a fixed high speed.Still other carbs have idle needle 2 turns out, high speed 1 1/2 turns.
Do high speed final adjust first then idle adjust, after doing idle recheck highspeed.

On the gas line, just run a new hose from the motor, cut off the tank line fitting, and attach any new connector from a boat store with the same size hose

Difficult to tell in my book. But these adjustments are not life and death settings the motor will start with both at 1 1/2.And then adjust one at idle and watch the reaction.
On further inspection bottom screw is high speed.
