everything on my dash is working except my fuel guage, should it be replaced or is there something that i can check to be sure if its the guage or not. the wiring seems to be good from the dash to the tank.

Re: fuel gauge not working

I use a 12v test light to test those. They have a wire with an alligator clip on the end for ground and a screwdriver-like body with a light inside and a pointy end like an ice pick. Less than $10 most any place that sells sparkplugs.

Put the alligator clip on the negative post on the gauge.
With the key on, touch the probe to the positive post. If it lights, you have power to the gauge.
Touch the probe to the sender post and the needle should just about peg to full. If it does, the gauge is good.
Then go back to the sender and put the alligator clip on the ground lead there.
Touch the probe to the center post and the gauge needle should just about peg again. If it does and the gauge reads empty but you have gas in the tank, replace the sending unit. Make sure you disconnect the battery before you do, and avoid any static sparks.

take the wire off the sending unit and ground it with the key on if it pegs the gauge,If not it's the sending unit .if not it will be other things

Re: fuel gauge not working

Let's just say you test the sending unit and it's bad....this is a float on an arm in the tank. You see the top of the assembly with the wires on it...it has a few screws you have to take out. These senders are usually cheap, depending on type, common type is cheap. As the arm goes up or down, it changes ohms on rheostat it is attached to. Simple.
Here is what i want to say. The new sender will have to have float arm(stiff wire) cut and bent to match old one and you MUST pay attention to bending in same direction to clear side of tank. The screw holes only match up ONE way, so study this
