Fuel gauge not working

My fuel gauge is not working. I have checked the gauge itself and it works when you ground it. The gauge always reads full and every once in the while when you tap on the gauge it will move but always goes back to full. When engine is off the needle goes all the way down. I have pulled out the sending unit and it read the correct ohms when in the up and down position. I cleaned off the ground connection. I'm not sure what to check next other than the wiring which I would have no clue how to do because those wires are bundled with all the other wires.

Any suggestions? I have thought about pulling the sending unit out and hooking it up to see if it works. Is this okay to do or will it mess something up. Currently it has too much gas to pull the unit out so I have to check it next weekend while out.

Re: Fuel gauge not working

WOW, another electrical problem ???
So grounding the gauge gives you a FULL reading? First, check continuity between a known good ground and the grond terminal on the sending unit.
After that it sounds like you're right on target again......When you can, pull out the sending unit, wire it directly to the gauge. If it works, run a new wire between the sending unit and the gauge.
