I am rewiring my Ebko/Evinrude and have everything working except the fuel gauge. I have the S (sending wire to the S (sending on the gauge. Grd is to tank, gauge, neg on battery. Pos is from bat to a switch with a pilot light. My navigation guage light is separate to navigation switch. I turn the switch on the pilot light comes on but the fuel gauge goes to full, the tank is empty though.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: fuel gauge problem

I'd say the sender wire is somehow connected to negative..

May be a faulty sender, but i'd double check all the wiring first..

These two links are straight to teleflex gauges technical pages... First link (pfd) shows you how the troubleshoot the entire fuel gauge system..

http://www.tflx.com/pdf/marfue~1.pdf

http://www.tflx.com/tech.html

Re: fuel gauge problem

Thanks snapperbait for the info. I'm just about back in the water. I found the Teleflex site helpful. I have a different brand of sender unit, I went back and read my instructions again, followed them to a T. I thought I will just try turning the rheostat over and see if that works. You got it, it worked. Thanks Richard

Re: fuel gauge problem

Richard – I did the exact same thing a couple years ago. Drove Teleflex tech support crazing trying to figure it out. They never get it. I don’t remember exactly what it was ... something simple…arggg! Everything will look like it is connected correctly…I used a couple of jumpers and connected the gauge directly to the battery only and it worked…from there I was able to correct the wiring. Arggg!!! Sorry… I think it was the shared grn with the tank…

Re: fuel gauge problem

I found out instructions are not always 100%. The instruction never said anything about the rheostat having to be one way or the other, but I should have known better. I wired the sending unit straight to the guage using another set of wires and moved the float. I won't soon forget this trick. Experience is the best teacher though.
Thanks again for all you guys help.
