fuel gauge reads empty

I bought a 96 glastron gs 205 and the gas gauge reads empty is it the gauge or sender how do l test. Thanks for any replies. Jon

the sending unit is tested with a ohm meter it sends a restiance reading to the gage depending on the float position, the gage can be tested by taking off the wire at the sending unit and first checking to see if thier is voltage. If thier is then gounding it will cause gage to change. Be extreamly carfull that thier no fuel fumes present a spark scan ingite them. If thier is no voltage then it can be a fuse or a bad connection or broken wire.

Maybe the tank is empty ???

Ground the pink wire on the tank,if the gauge pegs to full it's a bad sender
