How do I test a fuel gauge to see if it works? I bought the boat with it not working (1989 skeeter SF 175 DF). What do I need to know, or check for, to get it operating? How do I get started, besides opening my first beer, staring at it, and wondering when it will just "git rite"? Thanks

Re: Fuel Gauge

Remove the send wire (Usually pink and on the center of the fuel sender) from the fuel tank ( or somewhere along the line) and with the ignition switch ON, ground the wire. The gauge should go to full if good....

Re: Fuel Gauge

You can start by sticking your head under the console and see if the wires are attached to the back of the gauge and if they are, see if they are tight. There are four wires. +12V when the key is on. Ground, instrument light (should come on when the lights are turned on), and the send line which is the only line running back to the sender in the fuel tank. There is a ground wire on the fuel tank sender -- make sure it's attached to ground.
