i have a 1989 wellcraft 170 and the only two gauges that work are the spedo and fuel, i think. i put 10 gallons in it and it reads full and ive had it out 2 times for a couple of hours and it still reads full. it has a 89 85hp force on it, just wondering how long a full tank should last?

Re: fuel gauge

How long a tank of fuel lasts depends on how you operated the boat. If you held it wide open through a full tank of fuel, you 85 HP engine would burn roughly 8.5 gallons of fuel per hour. If you have a 20 gallon tank, after that period of operation you would be wise to begin looking for fuel. If you are pulling skiers or tubes it may burn even more. Obviously anything less than full throttle it will burn less but there are too many variables involved to predict accurately what 2/3 throttle or 1/2 throttle would burn. It may be close to 2/3 or 1/2 the WOT rate.
