fuel gauge

hi there

my fuel gauge is not working properly. It goes down to about half and then stays at empty. Might be the sensor, don't know. Has anyone some experience on this? Can I just change the sensor or the entire unit?

Here is a diagram for a TEMPERATURE gauge circuit but the same principle applies to the fuel gauge. Only the senders are different in appearance. But they both are variable resistors. Temperature sensor resistance varies by heat. Fuel gauge sender resistance varies by the position of the float arm.
