Fuel gauge

What up forum thank for all the help you guys gave me getting my boat out on the water. But i have a problem maybe you guys leed me to cure. I have a mercruiser 470 1982 motor i added 10 gallon of gas and the fuel gauge did not move at all i checked all fuses how do i go about checking the gauge.

Gain access to the top of the tank and there will be 5 screws holding the sending unit in place.

Use a test light or multimeter to make sure you have 12v+ going to the wire (usually pink) that's connected to the center of the sending unit (key must be in the ON position).

Make sure you have 12v- going to the (usually) black wire that's hooked to one of the outside retaining screws (or on a spade terminal near the sending unit).

If all is good, touch the ground and sending wires together. The gauge should peg to FULL. If so, your sending unit is bad. If the gauge doesn't move, then you either have a bad gauge (doubtful), or a break in the signal to the gauge (probable).
