1985 90 Johnson V4... I want to replace all the hoses from my tank to the carbs. Can I buy fuel line from off the reel(West Marine)or must I buy the individual part #s at the dealer? Also if the former, anyone know what size line this should be (assuming all sections are the same size?)

Re: Fuel Hose question...

For the V4 motors 5/16" hose is big enough. Most of the hose under the cowl can be replaced with the stuff off the reel. There might be a few curved pieces that you should get from your dealer. Just a tip: All of the hose connections under the cowl should be secured with plastic tie straps. I see a lot people use the screw type clamps and squeeze them so tight they damage the fuel line. There is not enough pressure on the lines to justify the metal clamps. If you use the correct size hose the plastice ties will work fine.

Try to find some real Tygon fuel line. More durable than rubber. It can be had cheapest from McMaster-Carr. If you need smaller amounts it can usually be found at small engine or tractor stores. Insist on Tygon branded material. It will not come part on the inside and is translucent so you can see air or other problems.
