Greeting everyone,
I have researched as much as I could before posting here so here goes it. I have a 92 Bayliner Capri with a Merc 5.0 I just had the upper drive replaced and all of my bellows replaced as well. When I first took it out and eventually went to put it on plane after a short time the motor made noises I didn't like and was running very hot (how hot I am not sure as the temp gauge seems to not work) I replaced the thermostat as well as the thermo housing as the old one was in very poor shape and where the ball spring things set was eroded pretty bad. (the motor is not enclosed cooled). I took the boat out yesterday, the first time since replacing the thermostat and housing but I never took it over 2000 RPM so I am not 100% sure if that issue is fixed as from what I have researched it could be my head gasket. While moving about the fumes from the exhaust are overwhelming. The smell is definitely coming from behind the boat and not from the motor. When I got to the boat ramp and pulled up the drive a gas pool (rainbow film) spread out from behind the boat. I know this could be two separate issues but I wanted to mention everything in case they may be related. Thanks in advance for and advice.

Yup, the upper half is brand new and as for the lower half everything including the impeller and housing etc. have been replaced with all new parts, I will check into having the carb adjusted as I know nada about carbs other than their primary function.

Thanks,
Eric
