Hi all,
I just did some trading and came up with a 6 hp Johnson (Model Number CD-25C) that I'd like to play with.
Previous owner replaced the water pump impeller and plugs recently and said it ran fine.
This weekend I picked up a 14' flat bottom boat (rated for 7 hp...perfect!) that I'll use the engine with.
I don't have a tank or fuel line yet, and that's what I wanted to ask about here. It looks like I can buy a pre-assembled line set, or the bulb and fittings and line and put my own together. I wondered what you all thought the pros and cons were to this. I'm the type that will spend WAY too much time saving a dollar (I'm frugal and handy). If I build it myself, what types of clamps have you had good luck with.
I'm also trying to decide if I should get a 3 gallon tank or a 6 gallon tank. How long will a 6 hp run on either? In your opinion...how handy is a gauge at this size (I'm guessing with a plastic tank, the gauge would be redundant/unnecessary).
Is there anything else I should know about before I start buying stuff? Like...is there anything special about this engine that I need to look out for when getting a tank or fuel line?
Oh...and I'll be getting a manual too.
Thanks for any input! I look forward to getting out on the Big Muddy (Missouri River) this season!
