Fuel line connection parts

Hi. I own a 50 hp Mercury outboard... 1984. (4-cylinder, 2-stroke oil/gas mix) I want to replace my fuel line, primer bulb and connectors with original OEM parts. Any body know what that might be? I know my connectors are the bayonet type. My dealer won't commit to anything without seeing the actual original parts. I can't show him because my boat is out of town. Secondly, while shopping at a local Fleet Farm store here in Milwaukee, they had so many different types of fuel lines and generic Mercury bayonet connectors it just confused me even more. Any advice on where to go for this? To obtain the actual manufacturer's part number? My owner's manual is of no help. Mercury website isn't of any help either. Any advice would be great. Thanx.

Re: Fuel line connection parts

I bought Mercury fittings and 2 new tanks at my local Fleet Farm this past spring. If they're marked "Mercury" (Mercury / Mariner if I remember correctly) they're the right ones. They aren't OEM Mercury parts and I'd stay away from the plastic versions they sell, opting for the metal tank fittings. You may not have any choice about the fittings on the new fuel line you buy. Otherwise they will work just fine.

Incidentally I have the same motor, same vintage even.

Thanx for the advice. How's your Mercury running? Mine keeps stalling like it's starved for gas when going at slow speed so I thought I would try a whole new fuel line connection and primer bulb to see if that would take care of the problem. My fuel fuel line and connections are probably 20 + years old for all I know. Thanks again.

have you ever decarb the engine, or rebuilt the carbs. both would help your idle problem, it's time for maintainance,, fuel lines in and out. ever changed the impeller.lower unit oil? you be supprised at how many people never do this. and wonder why it won't run right.

To get the correct part numbers, go Mercury Marine web site. You'll need your serial number. Click on SHOP, then PARTS EXPRESS. Look at the parts list for your engine. You can even buy on line or if you have the part number, right here on iBoats.

Re: Fuel line connection parts

My motor runs fine, but it needed some work when I bought it. The boat sat unused for a couple of years. The seller claimed he did annual maintenance but you know how that goes. The water pump impeller was dust and one of the plastic throttle linkage pieces was broken. The other problem I discovered after making these corrections was that it would run poorly until warmed up. I cleaned the carbs, finding literally nothing in there but that didn't solve the problem. In researching similar problems here on iboats I suspected the switch box / power pack / control module (it seems everyone calls it something different). I bought a new one on ebay for half of the cost at my local dealer and solved the problem.

Now the motor runs just fine.

Re: Fuel line connection parts

Thanks for the input, but I just paid a chunk of change to replace the switch box late last fall, plus had a tune-up done with the carbs and compression, etc. Why would the water pump impellor affect performance or fuel peoblems... doen't it just aid in cooling the engine?
