Good day, 1981 Johnson 9.9hp. I very small thin fuel line goes from the carburator to the fuel pump. It splitted open and needs to be replaced. Local marine dealer do not have such small fuel line. Any suggestions on where I can find a replacement hose of that size ? Thank you

Not sure where exactly you are located but most auto parts stores carry that fuel line. Larger one on that motor is probably a 5/16" inside diameter and smaller outlet to the carb is probably 3/16" inside diameter. Try auto parts stores. Good to replace it with newer vinyl fuel line (sometimes goes by the name tygon). If you can't find it locally there are people on eBay and Amazon that sell it by the foot.

The dealer does not carry standard fuel line? I believe on that model the actual size is 5/32 from the dealer, but 3/16 as stated from any auto parts type store will work fine.

Landscape power equipment dealer or even a motorcycle shop. They usually have everything from small string trimmer line to larger stuff for tractors and/or motorcycles.

You are dealing with "mixed fuel" which is nasty on hoses. Regular fuel line will not suffice. If you dig deep, regular auto hose is not recommended for mixed fuel. The only one that that I found comes close is Napa's Barricade hose. It's atleast rated for fuel oil. Tygon goes hard quickly and is not rated for mixed marine fuel. Best is to get the hose from a dealer.

I've been using Tygon on snowmobiles for years, (50/1 premix) and never had it go hard. Don't mistake Tygon for that cheap transparent line, its tinted yellow and is used on many 2 cycle motors like chainsaws etc. Agreed, the cheap transparent stuff will go hard in a short amount of time.

Tygon is not rated for marine apps. The OEM hoses outlast Tygon by far.

This 1981 OB has not been used intensively for the firt 25 years of it's life, and sparingly since then. This gas pump hose is first problem ever. Now I am wondering ... are there rubber parts in the carburator that can also rot and/or disolve from contact with premix fuel ? Only plugs and water pump have been changed. Still runs great but my second question is, should I have a carburator job done on it just the same ?

?????-------Premix fuel is not the problem !-------It is the ethanol in the gasoline that may attack older hose material.

OB repair shop supplied me with 1/8 size hose. Clear yellow, says made for premix. Did fit kind of tight.
